ABE/GED Program


The ABE/GED program provides opportunities for adults to improve their English skills in order to achieve their educational and employment goals. Instruction is individualized; students may perform at different levels and progress at their own pace, depending upon ability, achievement, and learning goals.

Upon entering the GED/ABE program at Miami Beach Adult & Community Ed. Center, a diagnostic test is administered in order to assess the student's academic needs. The purpose of this test is to generate a study schedule for each student.



The purpose of this course is to provide English language learner adults with English language instruction that will increase their ability to communicate in English for a variety of purposes including employment, education, and life in the United States.


The purpose of this course is to provide English language and literacy instruction for limited English proficient adults who are non-literate or semi-literate in their home language, in order to increase their ability to communicate in English.



This course introduces the fundamental elements of the Spanish language within a cultural context. Emphasis is on the development of basic listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. Upon completion, students should be able to comprehend and respond with grammatical accuracy to spoken and written Spanish as well as demonstrate cultural awareness.



In order to help our students become more effective participants in Miami Beach community life, Miami Beach Adult & Community Education Center offers an English and Civics program designed to help immigrants improve the English speaking and listening skills needed in their daily lives. Classes use a participatory approach to address topics directly related to student needs, such as community resources and workers' rights, along with broader topics like government and history. Classes include problem-posing activities, theme-based lessons, weekly computer literacy lab sessions and project-based learning tasks, along with guest speakers and field trips to identify local resources and services.

Child Care Licensure in Spanish


El entrenamiento para cuidado infantil es un componente esencial para obtener la licencia de cuidado infantil. La meta de este programa de entrenamiento es proporcionarle al personal del cuidado infantil las herramientas necesarias para asegurar un cuidado de calidad en nuestros programas de cuidado infantil. Para lograr esta meta, el Departamento ordena requisitos mínimos de entrenamiento introductorio junto con educación continua anual (in-service hours) para el desarrollo profesional.

Private Security Officer


This course prepares the student for the requirements to apply for a state of Florida "D" license. The program offers a sequence of courses that provides coherent and rigorous content aligned with challenging academic standards and relevant technical knowledge and skills needed to prepare for further education and careers in the Law, Public Safety & Security career cluster. It provides technical skill proficiency, and includes competency-based applied learning that contributes to the academic knowledge, higher-order reasoning and problem-solving skills, work attitudes, general employability skills, technical skills, occupation-specific skills, and knowledge of all aspects of the Law, Public Safety & Security career cluster. Students must complete 24 hours of training (Course A) before initial application for, and 16 hours of training (Course B) upon the first application for renewal of a Class "D" license.

High School Completion


High School Completion offers individuals who are near completion of high school requirements the opportunity to earn a high school diploma from our secondary schools at Miami Beach Senior high and North Miami Beach. Miami Beach Adult & Community Education Center offers a variety of high school credit courses that high schools may accept to meet graduation requirements. Courses are individualized and self-paced. This option is ideal for students needing 1 to 4 credits to earn their high school diploma. All courses are designed to be equivalent to a one semester high school course. When course work is completed, your transcript is sent to the participating high school which will then award your regular high school diploma.

Introduction to Computers


Miami Beach Adult at Fienberg Fisher Location offers Introduction to Computers, which is designed to familiarize students with computers and their applications. It will also emphasize the use of computers and technology throughout their high school, college, and future careers. Students will learn fundamental concepts of computer hardware and software and become familiar with a variety of computer applications, including word-processing, spreadsheets, databases, and multimedia presentations. Students will also investigate Internet-based applications, working with email and learning how to browse the web. The coursework also includes activities that explore social and ethical issues related to computers.
