The ABE/GED program provides opportunities for adults to improve their English skills in order to achieve their educational and employment goals. Instruction is individualized; students may perform at different levels and progress at their own pace, depending upon ability, achievement, and learning goals.

Upon entering the GED/ABE program at Miami Beach Adult & Community Ed. Center, a diagnostic test is administered in order to assess the student's academic needs. The purpose of this test is to generate a study schedule for each student.

Our complete ABE/GED program includes the following required courses:

Adult Basic Education (ABE)
This course is designed to improve educational opportunities for adults who lack the level of English literacy skills needed for effective citizenship and productive employment. Instruction is always based on the needs of the individual student. This course is offered in a computer lab and stand-up teaching setting in order to accommodate different learning styles. In the computer lab, students can learn reading, language, and math skills through various software and computer programs.

General Educational Development (GED) — high school equivalency test
The GED course is offered in a computer lab, where students learn more advanced skills through computer software, books, videos, and more. Students are also given various opportunities to practice essay writing, which is a major portion of the GED exam. Practice tests are administered periodically to determine whether students are ready for the actual test. Here are some GED facts:
